Every year in and around the celebration of Mardi Gras, all of the offroad parks in Texas open for their annual celebrations. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting for the Lenten season. For all of our fellow off roader’s it meant, time to get muddy and party! And that they did!
TreadWright Tires made the trek to several of these parks in a 4-weekend tour of the events and festivities known as Muddy Gras, Dirty Gras, Party Gras, and Mardi Gras Muddfest. Each park was unique in its own way with all of them having 100’s of acres of trails to get muddy on and others having obstacle courses for the serious 4x4 enthusiast. One park had a rock climbing area while most of them all had a monster mud pit. For those seeking the serenity of a party beach, there was that too.
While all of the parks were different, the events were very similar. Of course there were offroad events in the mud pits, and there was tug of war, etc. but what kind of Mardi Gras event would it be without “beads”. Of course there were beads and the recipients were more than kind enough to earn those beads. That then leads to another contest involving a white T-shirt and a pitcher of water where those same participants that had been earning their beads all day, now get to see who the “big” winner was.
As the sun goes down the “party” really fires up where each park had their stages kicked up with their musical entertainment from live bands and country singers to a hip-hop party and light show. The campers didn’t disappoint either with corals of tents, trailers, and friends with all of the off roader’s getting in the spirit of Mardi Gras with BBQ’s, beverages, and bonfires.
